Metaxia Papageorgiou is Assistant Professor in Archaeology at the Deree – The American College of Greece. Her research aims to illuminate aspects of societal transformation and the economy of the ancient Greek world by synthesizing archaeological, literary and scientific evidence. She specializes in the interdisciplinary study of Roman vitreous materials, while her current research interests focus on the production and circulation of ancient Greek medicinal compounds and their containers. She has been awarded grants that supported her graduate studies and post-doctoral research by the A.G. Leventis Foundation, the Hellenic Ministry of Education, and the Hellenic Ministry of Investment. She has collaborated with renowned research centers, including the American School of Classical Studies at Athens, N.C.S.R. “Demokritos,” the National Hellenic Research Foundation, and has participated in systematic excavations such as that of the Athenian Agora and Akrotiri, Thera. Professor Papageorgiou has also served as a teaching assistant at the University of Peloponnese, as an organizing committee member for various international symposia, as assistant to the editor-in-chief for the Mediterranean Archaeology and Archaeometry Journal and as historical editor for the digital encyclopedia for the Hellenic World of the Foundation of the Hellenic World. As of January 2018, she serves as a Board Member of the Hellenic Society for Archaeometry.
