As part of our work in the PAINLESS project, we also designed and prototyped the hybrid antenna array shown to the left. It features 2 active and 12 passive dipole antenna elements and provides beamforming by combined use of digital baseband processing and mutual coupling between the passive and the active elements. The prototype was designed by us and fabricated in collaboration with the National Center of Scientific Research (NCSR) “Demokritos.” It is currently in the measurement stage and we plan to mount it on our portable access point described above.
