Alexia V. Polissidis holds a BSc Honours Pharmacology degree from the University of Alberta, Canada and a PhD in Psychopharmacology from the Medical School, University of Athens. She is an Assistant Professor of Pharmacology in the Biomedical Sciences Program, Department of Science and Mathematics at Deree-ACG. Alexia has a research background in translational neuroscience and psychopharmacology. Alexia has received 2 grants and 6 awards for her research, published over 30 neuroscience papers, and co-authored two book chapters. She has been a member of the National Committee for Medicinal Cannabis Products and an external advisor for the European Medicines Agency Expert for the Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use. She is devoted to training the next generation of biomedical scientists and is actively involved in teaching undergraduate and graduate-level courses. She serves as a member of the Governing Council of the Hellenic Society for Neuroscience from (2022-2023), a member of the Biomedical Sciences Research Team in the Research, Technology, and Innovation Network (RTIN) at ACG, founder and chair of WIBS: Women in Biomedical Sciences, and she was invited as a fellow of CoES in September 2023. As a CoES fellow, she will focus on promoting the goals of CoES in the health and research sectors and she will also act as chair of the newly established Φ STEM group of CoES with a mission to promote femininities, ethnic and cultural minorities as well as disabilities in STEM, for a sustainable future.
