Marina Emmanouil is Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Arts & Creative Industries, Frances Rich School of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences (FRSAHSS) at Deree – The American College of Greece, overseeing programs in Graphic Design, Visual Arts, and Cinema Studies. She holds a PhD and MA in the History of Design from the Royal College of Art (UK) and a BA (Hons) in Graphic Design from the University of Hertfordshire, with additional studies in Performing Arts (GR) and Special Education (NL).
Having lived and worked across three continents, her transnational experience strongly informs her research and teaching, which focus on visual communication design / graphic design, design thinking, design research methodology, design education, participatory / co-design practices, accessibility and inclusion. She has also contributed to museum accessibility programs for visually impaired audiences in Greece, the UK, and the USA.
Previously, she was Assistant Professor at Ghent University (BE), co-founding the design.nexus research group, leading the Design Education team, and managing an Erasmus+ project. Senior Lecturer at Izmir University of Economics (TR), where she coordinated the MDes in Design Studies. She has published over 55 articles in leading journals and regularly serves as a reviewer and postgraduate supervisor.
