ACG 150

UAV-mounted portable access point (PAP)

prototype Unmanned Aerial Vehicle in our lab was developed for the purposes of the European-funded ITN project PAINLESS in collaboration with the local drone manufacturer Spirit Aeronautical Systems (S.A.S.). It has served as a prime full-fledged physical prototype representing the goal of the project of producing a fleet of energy-autonomous flying base stations for internet connectivity. It features multiple custom-made features such as a 3D-printed underbody stand to hold the Wi-Fi base station equipment, an antenna array, and finer prototyping details provided by S.A.S. specifically for our use case. It was publicly demonstrated in flight mode during the PAINLESS 5th Summer School event, held at our premises in May 2022, during which it hovered in mid-air while guests were able to connect their mobile devices to it and thus enjoy portable internet connectivity.
