The American College of Greece (ACG) recently hosted the opening of Imagining Greece: Tourism & Nation Branding, a digital exhibition exploring the transformative role of tourism in shaping Greece’s national identity from the post-World War II era to the end of the Cold War. The event featured a distinguished panel discussion, including Minister of Tourism Olga Kefalogianni, shedding light on Greece’s tourism evolution, the importance of preserving historical archives, and future strategies for sustainable tourism growth.
Led by Dr. Eirini Karamouzi and an interdisciplinary team of researchers, the exhibition delves into Greece’s national branding journey, illustrating how the country redefined itself as a global destination. Through archival material, visual culture, and digital humanities, the project offers a compelling narrative of Greece’s tourism history and its ongoing impact. Organized by the Institute for Hellenic Culture and the Liberal Arts (IHCLA) and the Department of Tourism, Hospitality, and Sports at Deree – ACG, the initiative underscores the intersection of history, culture, and strategic tourism development.
