The American College of Greece recently convened a significant event on World Environment Day 2024 on June 12 at the Arts Center Auditorium, focusing on the pressing issue of desertification. Dr. Stella Apostolaki, Executive Director of the Center of Excellence in Sustainability, delivered a keynote highlighting the alarming statistics of land degradation and its impact on global populations. Joined by Dr. Ioannis Kougkoulos and Dr. Dimitrios Voloudakis, who discussed GIS mapping of drought and climate change’s effect on agriculture, respectively, the event bridged scientific insights with artistic perspectives through workshops led by Stella Evgena and Matina Charalambi. This interdisciplinary approach not only educated participants but also emphasized ACG’s commitment to sustainability, evidenced by ongoing exhibits and initiatives fostering environmental awareness and action.
