ACG CoES Honored with BRAVO Sustainability Award

ACG announces that SDG4U—an Erasmus+ project with the ACG Center of Excellence in Sustainability (CoES) as a partner—has received the 2025 BRAVO Sustainability Award in the Education – Young Generation – Lifelong Learning category for advancing SDG 4: Quality Education.

Through strong collaboration, the consortium developed innovative tools and best practices—including an SDG mapping tool, educational methodologies, and academic resources—to help integrate the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals into higher education curricula and institutional practices.

3rd International Diving Conference 2025

ACG hosted the 3rd International Diving Conference 2025 on November 15, 2025, bringing together global experts in technical and recreational diving and underwater environmental protection.

 

Co-organized with the Hellenic Underwater Explorers (HUE), the ACG Center of Excellence in Sustainability (CoES), and the Center of Excellence in Shipping, Logistics and Energy (CoESLE), the conference featured distinguished speakers from academia, government, conservation organizations, and the diving community.

7th CSR School 2025

ACG played an active role in the 7th CSR School 2025 from October 9, 2025, where experts, businesses, and academics came together to explore sustainable practices. On the program’s 3rd day, Dr. Stella Apostolaki demonstrated how nature and biodiversity can drive resilient, future-ready business models, while Dr. Ioannis Kougkoulos, in conversation with EYDAP’s Margarita Gkamaletsou, spotlighted the importance of water as a critical natural resource and shared strategies for its responsible management.

World Ozone Day 2025 at ACG

ACG marked World Ozone Day 2025 on September 17, 2025, with an insightful lecture on the state of the ozone layer and its links to climate change. Organized by the Center of Excellence in Sustainability (COES), the event featured Dr. Ioannis Christodoulakis, who shared compelling research on why ozone recovery remains uncertain, especially following recent Arctic near-hole events in 2020 and 2025. His talk underscored the importance of ongoing monitoring and global action, while connecting to ACG’s broader commitment to the UN SDGs through the Campus as a Living Lab initiative.

Conferences

ICERI 2025

ACG took part in ICERI 2025, where Dr. Stella Apostolaki presented an SDG-focused teaching approach that sparks creativity and hands-on learning. The interdisciplinary module encourages students to explore sustainability through science, fieldwork, and artistic expression—transforming the campus into a living lab and inspiring impactful student-led projects.

ACG at The Economist Sustainability Summit 2025

ACG took part in The Economist’s 9th Sustainability Summit for South-East Europe & the Mediterranean on October 13–14, 2025, at the Divani Apollon Palace & Thalasso in Kavouri.

Representing ACG, Dr. Stella Apostolaki, Executive Director of the Center of Excellence in Sustainability, emphasized the transformative power of education in driving sustainability, while Professor Pavlos A. Vlachos of Alba Graduate Business School explored the psychology behind the “conscious consumer” and the importance of authenticity in corporate responsibility.

11th World Sustainability Forum

On October 2–3, 2025, Dr. Stella Apostolaki, Assistant Professor at Deree and Executive Director of the ACG Center of Excellence in Sustainability (COES), presented work conducted with Dr. Paraskevi Papadopoulou at the Forum’s session on climate change and socio-ecological systems. Their presentation highlighted the processes and outcomes of the Erasmus+ project SDG4U, which explores how universities can become living laboratories for integrating the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) across campus operations and academic life.

Workshops

SDG4U Erasmus+ Training Seminar

ACG hosted the SDG4U Erasmus+ Training Seminar on November 19, 2025, bringing faculty and students together to advance SDG-centered teaching and learning.

 

Organized by the ACG Center of Excellence in Sustainability (CoES) with SDG4U project partners, the seminar featured dedicated sessions for faculty and students. Faculty explored ways to integrate the 17 UN SDGs into curricula, guided by presentations from ACG project leads and the SDG4U coordinator.

European Sustainable Development Week 2025

ACG marked European Sustainable Development Week 2025 on September 25, 2025, with two insightful sessions led by Dr. Stella Apostolaki, Executive Director of COES and Assistant Professor of Environmental Science. Under the theme “Dimensions of Sustainability in Higher Education,” Dr. Apostolaki first unpacked the social side of sustainability—highlighting the links between climate change and inequality.

 

In a second session, she joined forces with Dr. Antonios Alevizos (NKUA & UN SDSN Greece) to explore how universities can embed sustainability across teaching, research, and campus operations.
